Swimming at Lily Lane

Being able to swim is an essential life-saving skill. It’s important to remember that children who appear water confident are not always competent swimmers.  It's a matter of safety to be able to swim but swimming is also lots of fun for people of all ages and children especially love getting in the water and enjoying themselves.

In addition, swimming provides loads of health benefits which can help to keep your children healthy and happy at the same time.  Swimming keeps your child’s heart and lungs healthy, improves strength and flexibility, increases stamina and even improves balance and posture.

Another great thing about swimming is that children of any age or ability can take part and it is more accessible for children with additional needs than almost any other sport.

Swimming provides challenges and is also extremely rewarding, which helps children to become self-confident and believe in their abilities.

Swimming is part of the curriculum for Year 5 children at Lily Lane.   But we are keen that our children should swim outside school too.  See below!

Manchester Active Card

See below instructions about how to register your child for a free ManchesterActive Card. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to email Mr Pye on spye@oldmoat.manchester.sch.uk  Mr Pye is always keen to chat with you about your child's swimming progress and welcomes any questions or queries you may have.  Mr Pye can sometimes offer access to free or subsidised swimming lessons outside school time.

A Manchester Active Card enables children with a Manchester postcode to swim for free at Hough End and other 'Better' centres around Manchester.   This is not for swimming lessons and it is a rule of the leisure centre that a paying adult would need to accompany them, but children can swim for free.

The Better website is a hub of a range of different sporting activities that children can attend all around the Manchester area.  Registering your child for a Better MCR active card is a fantastic way to get your child active and is beneficial for their social skills, making new friends during their out of school time.
