Key Stage 2
Within Key Stage 2 children are exposed to a variety of high quality books: stories, non-fiction, playscripts, poetry etc. They read and discuss these texts and then use them to produce their own writing.
As well as shared reading as a whole class, teachers also listen to children read in small groups in guided reading. Guided reading takes place on a daily basis and the sessions last approximately 30 minutes. The children complete a range of activities during their daily sessions and spend one session a week reading with their class teacher.
Upper key Stage 2
In Year 5 and 6 we choose our books from the banded selection. We use ‘Accelerated Reader’ where we read a book, take an online quiz, and get immediate feedback. Children respond to regular feedback and are motivated to make progress with their reading skills.
All children are given a ‘home’ reading book from the banded books.
